History of the Solo Club?

In 1963 the idea of an organization to serve the needs of a singles community in Albuquerque was conceived. On December 16, 1963, the Solo Club Incorporated was formally chartered by the New Mexico State Corporation Commission. When a private club liquor license was granted in April of 1964, the Solo Club became the first singles organization in New Mexico to have it's own complete club facilities.

As the organization grew
new facilities were soon needed. Eventually the land was acquired and the current facility was built in 1967. Much of the construction was accomplished by club members. To date this same dedication continues and much of the functions of the club are completed by volunteers.

1983 was a banner year for the Solo Club. The last payment was made on the mortgage and duly celebrated in July with a week long celebration ending with the mortgage burning ceremony. Then more land was acquired for a large parking lot and expansion of the building. The remodeling project was completed in 1987, and all debts on the building were paid by 1993.

Through the years the
Solo Club has not only provided friendship and fellowship for single adults, but has funded scholarships, and donates to local charities. Also, several times each year the Line Dancing Team, known as Gotta Dance Team, performs for local school, senior center and a host of other functions.

In 2008, the club membership voted to end smoking in the club making the Solo Club one of the few private, smoke free clubs in the Albuquerque area.
